Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka
Another addition to our proposed wellness resort master plan in Anuradhapura, the single-bedroom elevated chalets are a low-budget affair crafted with meticulous attention to detail and considerations for the local context. Proposed to be built on an environmentally sensitive marshy land with ample flora, fauna, and wildlife, it was our responsibility as architects to touch the ground lightly and build with minimum disruption to the surrounding context.
We drew inspiration from the region’s vernacular architecture and placed a greater emphasis on using materials for both environmental and economic purposes. The building is elevated using steel/concrete pillars to counter flooding during the Northeast Monsoon period. The spaces inside were designed to enhance the privacy of the dwellers while maximizing views of the surrounding natural context
